I woke up this morning and the tent was wet, but the day was clear and I hoped for some dry hiking weather. I started hiking with Glassman around 10:30 after waiting for the tent to dry and cooking breakfast. We hiked for a couple of hours before seeing another hiker. This time of year there are far fewer through hikers, so during the week the Trail is less crowded and I am usually seeing less than five other hikers per day.
Mid-day we arrived at the state line and took an hour to enjoy snacks and read the log book. The Massachusetts/Vermont State Line is the Southern Terminus of the Long Trail. I am thrilled to be crossing into MA after hiking all 149.8 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Vermont!
We arrived at camp about an hour and a half before dark and set up the tent on a platform-in the dry-ish. After eating dinner and making a large campfire another southbound hiker came in. He is almost 51 years old, his name is Sharkey, and he is attempting a Yo-Yo hike. He started in the spring at Springer Mountain in Georgia, hiked North to Katahdin with his girlfriend, and then she went home and he took four days off before beginning his to hike back to Springer.
