Miles Hiked: 9.9
Hours Hiked: 5
This morning I woke up at the Shamrock Inn in Dalton, MA and walked down the trail to Tom's house. When we arrived we learned from the hikers sitting on the porch that there had been six hikers sleeping there last night. After spending a couple hours sharing donuts and chatting at Tom's house with Crazy Horse, Mosey and Sqeak and Squash, Tom dropped us off at County/Pittsfield Road with just day packs that he lent us. We hiked North 9.9 miles on a beautiful trail. I am so thankful that it didn't rain today. Before I met Glassman in VT I had camped for a night with Oboe Hobo and his dog, Gertie. He is a great guy with a southern accent, but from northern Illinois. Anyway, we met him again on the trail today and chatted for about an hour about what books we were reading. It was a fun break from hiking. Speaking of breaks from hiking, when we knew that we only had about two miles left for today's hike we stopped in a meadow and read another chapter of "The Hobbit". And today I saw a porcupine for the first time! When we arrived back at Tom's house the news was that he was taking a carfull of hikers to The Old Country Buffet. I was excited that they had waited for Glassman and I to return. Imagine the damage that six adult hikers can do at an All You Can Eat Buffet. It was a fun night. Also, mid-way through the meal another hiker came into the restaurant--It was Teddy Bear! He sat with us and Tom gave him a ride back to town.
